2017: Unique Challenges in Treating Insomnia in the Older Adult

Introduction:
The presenter will discuss the common causes of insomnia in aging adults, and how to tailor CBT-I to treat insomnia in older persons. A case study describing the use of CBT-I as a treatment in special co-morbid populations, especially older adults with cognitive impairment, will be evaluated and discussed.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the presentation, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the common causes of insomnia in aging adults
2. Describe how to tailor CBT-I to treat insomnia in older persons
3. Discuss adaptations for using CBT-I with special co-morbid populations including older adults with cognitive impairment
